The challenges facing Christian youth and young adults today (both in our churches and churches in general) are significant. Generally speaking, we are distracted and not really interested in the activities on Sabbath, and during the week “church” is sometimes the last thing on our minds. In fact church is…well… “just church” if you know what I mean. Being a Christian seems like it means going to church on Saturday and living by a set of rules during the week. Coupled with these challenges are also great opportunities, however we may not have figured out what they are or how to act on them.
Our convention this year has been designed to be fun and interesting from start to finish – tailored to the needs and interests of this generation. The theme will be dissected in several ways to make sure that “we get it” at the end of the 5 days and to ensure that we are are empowered to take action based on what we learned from the convention. But it doesn’t stop there – we will re-examine the theme throughout the year leading up to convention 2012 to make sure that we really understand it's full meaning, and have made progress in moving to where we need to be.
I hope that convention 2011 will be a blessing to you and that the events, speakers and online tools will be of benefit in understanding the challenges and opportunities related to "Christianity in our generation!" May the Holy Spirit take control of the plans we have set forth so that you may be impacted by this year's convention.
Sincerely,
Ivan Francis
